Scenario Entitled: The Trouble With D-Bees and SportsCharacters:
Ailic, new healer in Tolkeen, fell right off the village cart. ;)
Rooke, city-girl, and apparently not a very good soccer coach.
Location: Brimstone and Lazlo, The Athletic Field
Date: Ninevus, 109 P.A.
Ailic wanders through the area, gawking at this and that enough to mark him new to the city.
Rooke has just come out of the large red-brick building on the northwest corner of Lazlo and Brimstone, a medium-sized city intersection. A sizeable carry-case depends from one hand. It's the weekend, and the street is cluttered with groups of people mostly on their way to another area, as the majority of this one is residential. On the southwest corner, two small groups of youths try to play a game that looks like it could be soccer. They're not very organized.
Ailic stops to watch the game, smiling with the thought that even here in the city children find a way to play.
The reason why the game isn't doing very well is that at least two of the participants don't seem to have been very well instructed on the rules. Two humanoids with fins cresting over their tiny ears, and wearing sloppy clothing that would look better as shades on a lamp, are constantly trying to hide the black-and-white ball under their bell-like petticoats. Everytime one of them manages that, a big kicking and shouting fest ensues.
Rooke pauses on the northwest corner, either waiting for the opportunity to cross over east, or absorbed in watching the peculiar game herself.
Ailic chuckles abit, but not knowing the game himself stays out of it. Genuine amusement and enjoyment shows clearly on his face.
Rooke looks like she's about to leave them to it, herself, and steps out onto the street to cross to the eastern side. At the last moment, her pacing stutters, and she changes course to job southwards across the street in a moment of non-traffic, to get closer to the game. "..after all, it's their own problem if they keep letting those twins join in," she's heard to be muttering as she reaches the southwest corner, carry-case in tow.
Ailic looks to find the voice of disapproval. He says "do you know the game, Miss?"
Rooke gives Ailic a cursory glance as she passes him to enter the athletic field. When he suddenly speaks, she looks over at him again, and pauses. "Hmmh? Yes, sort of," she replies with a lift of her brow. "But not exactly the one they're playing. I don't know /what/ version of the rules of Hands-tied Soccer calls for an all-out melee." She pronounces it me-lay.
Ailic says "Hmmm..Soccer? What is the object of the game?"
There's a chorus of both cheers and grumbling as the ball comes flying towards one of the large nets. A short but vigorous fellow there leaps upon the poor battered thing, bearing them both to the ground, hard. The boy oooofs, as he lands solar-plexis first, over the ball.
Rooke looks distracted as she continues to converse with the stranger on the corner. "It's obvious, don't you think? Each team's gotta try and get the ball in the enemy net, but without using their hands." She glances over at the minor misfortune of the winded youth, and a smirk edges its way onto her lips. "Of course, I guess if you wanted to use your clothing to accomplish the goal, that is technically legal.."
Ailic grins and nods to Rooke, "My thanks. I think I'll watch abit longer to get a feel for the game..and also to help should anyone get more than just a bump or bruse."
Rooke's smirk turns into a small smile. "Ahh.. a medic?" she inquires, looking him over. "That's awfully nice of you. Their games," she jerks her head to indicate the group of young ruffians who are now attempting to kick the goalie into submission, "tend to get pretty rough."
Ailic nods his head still smiling, "I do what I can. Everyone deserves to be healthy." He pasues then shakes his head, "I'm sorry. My name is Ailic." And with that he offers a hand.
She seems to find something in his initial statements a trifle amusing, if the quizzical expression that steals over her face is any indication. Noticing his hand, she shifts her carry-case from one hand to the other, in order to reach out and grasp his hand properly in her gloved one. She gives it two firm shakes, a habitual sort of thing, then releases her grip. "I'm Rooke." She pronounces that: Ruk. "Ay-lick?" she tries out the name, a bit slowly. "Well. Hope you can enjoy the game without having to go to work on any of them.. it's the week-end for crying out loud, hey?" Does she seem overly talkative for a city-dwelling stranger?
Ailic chuckles, "Thanks. I'll try not to work too hard but..accidents happen and I may be needed."
Rooke nods to that, and steps back presently, glancing over at the field again. The game has resumed: the players tear across the grass at a ferocious pace as the ball roams free. They're not so much interested in claiming the ball to try for a goal, as they are in simply getting to it before one of the D-Bees manages to squat down over it with their shell-like garments. "Ah well.. I'd try to help them out a bit, but they never seem to listen." The smirk is back. "Anyway.. see you later maybe." She starts to wander off to the corner again.
Ailic says "Thanks again, Miss Rooke."
Rooke nods absently, quipping, "Not at all, -Mis-ter Ailic," with an obvious emphasis on the title. She heads across the street to the east, this time ignoring the howls of outrage as one of the D-Bees on the field sits firmly on top of the ball, and starts to scuttle into the sidelines with it.
Ailic chuckles and turns back to the game.
