The staff on Rifts: Rise from Chaos have been called strict, picky, and judgmental. They have also been called wonderfully helpful, friendly, patient, and hard-working. Mixing those two sides together, we come out with a combination describing a bunch of people who are, on the whole, outstanding, even if they are only human. ;)
One thing you can be sure of is that on RfC, staff are hired based on heart and good attitude, equally as much as their talents and intellect. A good management team is as important as, and will be the cause of a good base of players. There is no application process to become a staffer here; it's by invitation only. Currently, the active team is small, to reflect our modest playerbase.
The best way to catch the Staff's eye is to show heart and a great attitude while playing online here. Writing skills, creativity, and a certain, playerly devotion to the site are also a must. Only time and observation will help the staff make a decision about a player they are considering for staff.
RfC Staff Roster Centauri MUSH Owner, Head Wiz, Storyteller, Author, Architect, Approvals, Statting, Administration, Minor code Antares Militia Wiz, Tech and Items Wiz, Storyteller, Author, Approvals, Statting Uranus OOC Wiz, MUSH Administration, New Player Help Pyxis RP and Theme Wiz, Storyteller, Author, Architect, Statting, Coding Bootes Plot Admin, Storyteller, Author, Architect, Approvals, Statting Scorpio OOC Admin, General Player Help, ON LEAVE Imbrium Code Admin, General Help All Staffers have the Tertiary duty of General Player Help. That is the basis of any role (except for perhaps Coders and MUSH Administration), and it is assumed that all the Staffers have a working knowledge of Rifts and especially RfC MUSH, enough to help any player with general issues pertaining to such. This includes New Player Help, which requires knowing where to point a newbie for all their introductory and CharGen needs.
A Staffer will have one or more of the following Secondary titles, which they voluntarily choose to take on according to their interest and strengths in said titles.
IC Titles:
A) Storyteller - Basically a GM, this involves the development and execution of
Scenarios and TPs in all their various forms and stages. The Storyteller should
consult the appropriate Wizard depending on the theme and details of their TP.
B) Author - elaborates on the details of the IC World by composing +news files,
or providing creative brainstorming for the inception of Scenarios and TPs.
C) Architect - builds and @descs new environments on the grid for the purposes
of RP fun. Must be imaginative with good spelling and grammar skills.OOC Titles:
A) BG Approvals - Staff in this area are entrusted with helping new players gain
Approved status. It requires reading and critiquing BGs, and upholding the MUSH
standards for writing skills and BG quality. Any other Staffer may approve concepts,
and offer general advice on backgrounds, but only Approval Staff may put the
'Ready for Statting and IC' stamp on the new player.
B) Statting - These folk set up appointments with new Approveds and stat them up,
or admit them to the new Self-Stat CharGen process, keeping the house rules in mind
(+news chargen5).
C) Coding - In this area the Staffer indicates that s/he is available to help with coding.
D) MUX Administration - Only a few of the Staff have access to the Administration
Site, and are capable of necessary shutdowns, restarts, and sitebanning.Primary duties - Each Wizard has an area of specialty and authority concerning aspects of IC Play. They are expected to provide rulings, details, and advice on their area of expertise to facilitate RP on the grid. The themes are: Tolkeen, Outer Tolkeen, The Militia, Black Market and Crime, Psionics and Magic, Technology and Items, Guilds, and CS/Enemies of Tolkeen. Due to the relatively small roster of Staffers, most of the Wizards generally handle more than one area.
Admin have more generalized areas of specialty, based on their talents: Coding, Assisting in Plots, Running NPCs, Creating IC Atmosphere, and/or Judging Combat Scenes.Contact Staffing - Our Contact Staff, consisting of Centauri, Antares, Pyxis, and Bootes, are capable of and available for assisting players on a one-to-one, long-term basis, specifically in regards to discussing character issues and ideas, and OOC concerns. Our ultimate goals are the same; the well-being and growth of the MUSH, and the overall enjoyment of the community, but one may find that they are most comfortable with a certain staffer, and through that relationship, a link with the rest of the Staff may be established.
The Players of the Characters featured here have spent at least a month IC and roleplaying at Rise From Chaos (updates being made monthly, ideally). Several of them have been with the MUSH since the first year (some before the opening day) and have RPed their way through legendary roles and events. Others have only just begun to make a name for themselves on RfC. What they all have in common is that they have each created one or more characters who are unique in the personalities breathed into them by talented writing. May they all continue to flourish in Tolkeen.
To find out more about these characters, check their +info, on site. Common descriptive words are used to indicate characters who are, for current or past deeds, Popular, Well-known, Celebrity, or Famous. OOP = Out Of Play. ON VACATION = Either taking a break from the MUSH and expected back, OR still around but sadly not active.

A city does not run on heroes alone. In the course of RP, Non-Player Characters are born into being, to aid, harass, or generally create atmospheric noises for the Player Characters to have to talk over. Some souls are whipped up on the fly, serve their purpose, and then fade back into obscurity once their purpose is served. Others, however, manage to create a lasting impression and thus are invited to return time and again to join in the fun. The supporting cast deserves a round of applause.
NPCs have rights, too. The whimsical blowing up, mowing down, and/or general cheapening of supporting cast is discouraged. While they do tend to be two-dimensional caricatures, as opposed to the fully-fleshed PC, motivated, realistic NPCs make for a better scene/plot, so treat them fairly.
For continuity of RP on the grid, established non-player characters will be listed in the +details coded into certain rooms on the grid, especially places of business. These may be used by the players during associated RP, run more-or-less faithfully to the outline given of their personality. Notify Staff of any important occurances witnessed by the NPC that might change the way they are played.
The following NPCs are characters who fill specific roles, and mostly require a request to staff for their appearance in a scene (they may also log in randomly and unbidden but available for RP). Send NPC requests in to the *admin alias if you are unsure about who plays certain NPCs. NOTE: OOP stands for Out Of Play, a state in which the character is unavailable for Role-Play at this time.
